How to help with Operation East End

How to Give

Cash and cheques:

Please use the special pale yellow appeal envelopes so we can be sure how much we have collected for the fund.

Cheques should be made out to St Barnabas Southfields PCC and please write on the back “Operation East End”.  If you pay tax in the UK, St Barnabas can claim gift aid on your donation (which amounts to an additional 25%!) so please do fill in your details on the envelope. Details of all donations will be handled very discreetly.

Yellow envelopes can be handed in to Ian, Joy, any of the Fundraising Group members or simply put in the plate on Sundays.

Direct Debit or BACS:

If you would like to set up a direct debit for the appeal please talk to Hector Pinnington.  If you would like to make a donation by direct bank transfer (BACS) the details you need are below.  Please still fill out an envelope and hand it in if the donation can be gift-aided.

Our church building is over 100 years old and so needs quite a bit of Tender Loving Care. Unfortunately rainwater has been getting in via the roof and the walls in certain places for some time and has damaged large sections of internal plaster and stonework, particularly in the north east corner of the church above the vestry.

Ian and the Building Committee have worked hard in recent years to tackle the leaky roof and failed pointing. Now our church architect, Karen Butti of Thomas Ford & Partners, thinks we are more or less watertight and in a good position to start concentrating on the interior – at last!

She estimates the cost of replacing the damaged plaster above the vestry and the office door and repainting it, and cleaning the stone arches will be in the region of £12-15,000. In addition we would like to give the main window above the high altar a good clean and have the leading repaired and any poor quality panes of glass replaced, which will cost another c. £5000.

Because our annual income from giving, halls lettings and the Christmas Fair only just about covers our outgoings, we need to raise this money separately in a Big Fundraising Push – hence Operation East End!

Forthcoming events

We have three events planned so far…

19 Sept: Grand Quiz Night

(contact Stuart)

4 Oct:    Harvest Hog Roast and Open Day (contact Jennie)

31 Jan:  Auction of Promises

(contact Hector)

We urge you to put these in your diaries but also to think how you might help the appeal by:

  • Raising money individually eg via a sponsored run, cycle, hymn sing…
  • Giving personally to the appeal – special yellow envelopes are available for your contribution and don’t forget to Gift Aid them if possible OR you can donate via direct bank transfer – see the Giving Information slip
  • Suggesting other ideas which the Group might take forward

Please take an envelope and Giving Information slip. Envelopes can be handed to Ian, Joy or any of the Fundraising Group members.

Thank you in advance for supporting this appeal.

Let’s make St Barnabas beautiful again!

How will the money be spent?

The architect can only give estimates for the work at present, based on her experience. We are currently applying for a Faculty from our Diocese (a sort of “permission” to go ahead with the works) and then we can obtain competitive quotes that will be more accurate. In the meantime we are working on these figures:

Internal Scaffolding                 £2500

Wall repairs/stone cleaning  £6000

Painting                                   £2000

External scaffolding                £2500

Window repairs                     £3000

Architect’s Fees                      £1000

Contingency                           £3000

———————————————–

TOTAL                                    £20,000

If there is any money left over once the work is completed, it will be used to repair and decorate the rest of the interior walls.
