Remembrance and Community

It was good to see such a good turn- out on Remembrance Sunday, including by those who just joined us for the 2 minutes silence. One of the great differences between country churches and city ones is that the latter are much more often perceived as holy clubs- by insiders and outsiders- who do their religious stuff in private and for their own purposes.

Later I attended a similar ceremony for the Marines and their families, for whom this last year has been a tough one due to the losses of so many on active service. Those events are invaluable in themselves but so often the conversations afterwards are rewarding  and informative; like my discovery that it is from their base here that they went out to make such a vital contribution to the Olympic Games, in protecting people and contributing to the medal ceremonies.
