Desecration of Trinity Square Gardens

Desecration may be too strong a word, but certainly plans to turn this memorial garden near the Tower of London into a corporate entertainment venue sre disturbing. According to an article in the Observer this morning, from the middle of November until just before Christmas the lawn of the gardens will be covered by a huge marquee, so that corporate guests can enjoy lavish entertainment and booze from mid morning until after midnight. Tower Hamlets Council who has trusteeship of the site is responsible for maintaining public access to this area, which also contains memorials to all the merchant seamen who died in 2 world wars,  seems to be more interested in raising revenue than fulfilling those obligations. In hard times perhaps it is understandable that an offer of hard cash from the company ‘ Moving Venue’, should turn the heads of cash strapped public servants but this does not feel right for so many reasons.
